Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Healius’ response to Coronavirus

Current at 13/05/20

Healius is committed to providing essential services in frontline healthcare to the Australian community in direct response to the Coronavirus pandemic and for all other healthcare needs.

All businesses in Healius (Medical Centres, Pathology, Imaging and Day Hospitals) have instituted appropriate actions in response to the Coronavirus following the guidelines provided by the Australian Department of Health and the relevant public health unit in each state. The current situation is set out below. It remains dynamic and will be updated in line with Government guidelines.

Every Medical Centres has appropriate signage regarding identification of symptoms upon arrival and an isolation room for appropriate treatment. We have introduced remote telehealth solutions, with GPs at our centres performing around 35-40% of consultations by phone at this time.

We have designated a number of our Pathology collection centres as COVID-19 centres and set up drive-through facilities as easily-accessible venues where samples can be collected from the public for testing.  This service, which requires a referral from a GP, is fully reimbursable under the Medicare Benefits Schedule.

While our collection centre locations around the country have appropriate infection control procedures in place, designated COVID-19 centres are provided with additional material to ensure the maximum safety of our employees, patients and the wider community.

We are undertaking testing for COVID-19 in all our pathology laboratories across the country. We have secured testing kits, equipment and reagents from a diverse range of suppliers, delivering extensive COVID-19 capacity. This will enable us to assist with the easing of lockdown restrictions and the re-opening of the economy.

Our Imaging facilities in community, hospital and medical centre environments remain in operation and have appropriate signage, isolation processes and social distancing measures in place.

Our Day Hospitals, Dental and IVF facilities have recommenced activities this month in line with government guidelines and with appropriate signage, isolation processes and social distancing measures in place.

As an employer of over 13,000 people we take the security of our staff very seriously and personal protection equipment is being provided to staff as appropriate, supported by training, updated procedures and regular communications, in order that they may continue to undertake essential frontline healthcare.

Details of our response to coronavirus and any updates are available on our Healius corporate website and local Medical Centres, Pathology, Imaging and other websites.
